Around Town,Best of Chicago

Two things residents of Chicago apartments enjoy most in the Windy City are, the opportunity to grab a pick-me-up on the way to work and the chance to catch up with friends over a cup of java. Great coffee joints linger in your memories while you live on the shores of Lake Michigan. Here are four you’ll remember for a long time.

CHECK OUT THESE GREAT COFFEE SHOPS

Bow Truss Coffee Roasters is at three downtown locations. You won’t find a typical atmosphere with Wi-Fi and soft couches. Instead, you’ll be treated to a large open area where coffee fans roast Bow Truss specialty beans. The barista can bring you drip or pour-over coffee, as well as tea and a variety of espresso beverages. Wandering in on a Saturday morning by yourself is a special treat.

If you’ve ever considered spending the better part of a day in a coffee joint, the Bridgeport Coffee House is the place to do it. It has four South Side locations. When you enter the site on Morgan at 31st Street, you’ll find yourself in a warm-toned, wood-appointed establishment. Bridgeport’s top reputation throughout Chicago has to do with the care with which it roasts and brews its own beans. You’ll be talking about its bright, smooth pour-over all week.

Be prepared for a wonderful European ambiance at Ipsento. Locations on N. Western and N. Milwaukee feature direct-trade coffee roasted on the premises. Lattes and food are tasty. The sandwiches take their names from storytellers like Garrison Keillor. What you’ll probably remember most are the super-friendly baristas and the warm atmosphere.

Although Wicker Park is the home of many coffee shops, none of them stand out like The Wormhole. Be prepared to encounter a time-travel theme. If you love really strong iced coffee, this is the place. The baristas are true professionals who use beans from a number of cult roasters. You’ll also see some baked goods from Fritz Pastry and a variety of cereals.
