Lake Michigan is a wonder to behold, and doing so is totally free. You can walk along the blue lake and stare across the water to experience a surprising sense of peace. Or, if you are in a hurry, you can just check it out from the window as you cruise on Lake Shore Drive.<\/p>\n

2. CHECKING OUT THE CITY FROM A ROOFTOP BAR<\/h2>\n

There are several places where you can look out over the skyline of the city. While the cost of a drink is a small commitment, it is well worth it to stare out over the beautiful skyline – especially after dark. And you miss the tourists that keep the Skydeck Chicago packed.<\/p>\n

3. GOING TO LINCOLN PARK ZOO<\/h2>\n

The grounds of Lincoln Park Zoo are truly special, and free to visit as well. You can check out the animals, try out one of the adults-only events once each month, or both.<\/p>\n

4. EATING A CHICAGO DOG<\/h2>\n

There are a lot of different hot dog styles out there, but as a resident of Chicago, you know the best is still the Chicago-style. The poppy seed bun, bright green relish, tomatoes, the snap of the hot dog – there really is nothing else like it. And it’s cheap.<\/p>\n

5. TRYING A TAMALE<\/h2>\n

If you are someone who likes to enjoy the Chicago nightlife, you should be on the lookout for the Tamale Guy before you make your way home. Carrying a classic red cooler full of hot, spicy, delicious tamales, he is worth visiting.<\/p>\n

6. STANDING OUTSIDE WRIGLEY DURING A GAME<\/h2>\n

The roar of the crowd is spectacular. Of course, you can always go in and check out a game. But just hearing the crowd is a special experience.<\/p>\n
