The fall is a particularly exciting time in the Chicago area, with residents having all of the following “can’t miss” events to look forward to this autumn.
The annual Chicago area pumpkin festival, the Great Highwood Pumpkin Festival, is scheduled for October 7-9 in 2016. The event will include a parade, a pet costume contest, several 5K races, hayrides, a carnival with rides and games, pumpkin carving and much more. A number of vendors will be on hand to sell food and handcrafted items.
HALLOWEEN AT NAVY PIER
For Chicago residents, Halloween fun can last for weeks. The “Halloween Gathering” parade, which is hosted by the Chicago Cultural Mile, will take place at 6:00 p.m. On the 23rd, trick-or-treating is open all over the pier from 12:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. On the 28th, the Amazing Chicago Haunted Maze is open from 6:00 p.m. to 10:00 p.m. On the 29th, there is a costume contest at 5:00 p.m. in the family pavilion area. The Halloween fireworks begin at 9:30 p.m. The maze will be open from 6:00 p.m. to 10:00 p.m. on the 29th. On the 30th, trick-or-treating is again available all over the pier from 12:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. Finally, on the 31st, trick or treating will last from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. and the maze is open from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m.
PUMPKIN FEST IN HOMER GLEN
At Bengston’s Pumpkin Fest from the 5th to the 30th of October, the Haunted Barn is tons of spooky fun for older children. Younger kids will love the “Fun Barn” that is geared for their age range. There is a range of kiddie rides for the little ones, a petting zoo for kids of all ages and a corn maze for family fun. Plenty of fall foods and beverages are on hand, as well.
